“مريم العذراء.” (mary).
35mm - film, series.
2018.

These photographs were captured the day after my grandmother's passing in an attempt to document  absence and position my understanding of mortality as a learned experience. I position the body: that of a family member or my own, in reconciliation with  spaces where my grandmother has “passed through” primarily her home, church and neighborhood, creating a sense of improvised ‘oneness’. I also consider my body as an additional site of passage, where my grandmother’s existence lived and performed fluently.
As a result, each image details a permutation of the acceptance of death and letting go.
